[she bolts upright at the sound of that voice. The one that means more to her than anything. She reaches for the journal, dropping it twice before finally managing to get it open]

Luffy?!

[Well by this point he has actually managed to at least find the journal thing and figure out it's a communication device. He is just going to answer her a minute or so later and talk as if he hadn't just been yelling at the top of his lungs moments ago.]

Yosh yosh. Hello, that's me.

Who is speaking? [Have to be polite and all that when answering the ~~phone~~ ~~Den Den Mushi~~ journal.]

[a chill sweeps through her and her hands start to shake. It-- it's late and, perhaps he came from a time before--before they were together again on the Grand Line. Maybe she's changed that much. But she manages a smile anyway. Somehow.]

It's Robin...

[He knows he's not the smartest but he's usually not bad at remembering people. Which is why he rubs his chin and tries to think really hard on the name she gave.]

Robin... Robin...

[He repeats the name to himself a few times, but... nothing.]

It's weird, but I can't remember seeing you from anywhere. Have you ever been to Foosha Village? [Because if they did meet, it had to be there.]

[ she can tell even before he says it. He's thinking too hard. She does not exist in his world. Her nakama are here but they are not-- The hard knot twists inside of her. They are not-- She is not--

No-- they are.

They are and she is.

She wipes at her eyes with the back of her hand. They will be. Luffy is still her captain even if he can't remember and she will still--follow him if he--if he lets her.

She won't let the Malnosso beat her even in this. She has been here too long to be so easily beaten down.

Even so the truth is frozen in her mouth. It's too much. So she takes a smaller step. She takes a deep quiet breath, though when she speaks, her voice is strained]

This--is another world, Captain-san. [she blossoms a hand behind him to tug affectionately at one of his feathers]

And it will be hard. But I will watch over you, ne? [her chin is trembling and she stops it but a warm trail slides down her cheek anyway, even if she is smiling. dereshishishi]

[Was... was she crying? Damn, he didn't mean to hurt her feelings. He really just didn't remember her. Ugh, why can't he remember, it really pisses him off like nothing else.]

D-don't cry, I'll definitely remember. I just need a little more time than normal...

[He is just about to go through a few other places that he might have seen her when he feels something tugs at his wings.]

A HAND!?

[What was a hand doing back there? Was Buggy nearby!?

He looks around a little for a second, but... he doesn't see the dumb ol' clown. And the hand doesn't seem to be doing anything particularly mischievous. So... he guess he'll leave it alone for now.]

[Besides there's more important matters that distract him. Something that make his expression change to something a little more serious.]

You called me Captain... [Okay he would definitely remember recruiting her, there is no way he would forget that. Someone calling you their captain is a big deal and he knows it's something that's not taken lightly.

He can tell there is feeling behind those words too. So it doesn't seem like she's lying.

... then what was it? This whole "other world" thing doesn't make any sense to him.]

[she sits up, a little stunned by the change in his tone. That serious voice that she admires (and is a little apprehensive of now) she can't tell what it means or what he's thinking. It's too much to be looking into those intense eyes so she looks away, feeling younger than he is, somehow. Vulnerable. But--it's all right where he is concerned.

But how can she explain it? If she just says it will it be enough? Will she need some kind of evidence? No. He doesn't like to know things that will happen after all.

Her voice is faint]

I did [she absently fiddles with a lock of hair before remembering herself and smoothing her hands in her lap, propping the journal on an extra set, grown from the bed]

What do you make of that?

[He says with the kind of blunt honesty that one would come to expect from Luffy after hanging around with him enough. The situation was confusing, but he definitely couldn't deny her emotions. He had a feeling they were genuine. The only thing was that they didn't make sense.

She also knew his name too, so she couldn't have confused him for anyone else.]

I don't remember you-- I said, I didn't, but-- [But even so you still called him Captain...] But you're not lying either. You definitely joined my crew. [He scratches his head a little.] So we're both telling the truth.

[Which doesn't make seeense.]

And I definitely recruited you myself right? It wasn't the others?

[You're incredibly difficult to be anything around, Luffy. Her emotions are roiling from one to another and she can't seem to find her footing. In as much as this situation hurts, there's something about Luffy being Luffy that's inherently comforting. She wants to hug him. Tweak his hat. Watch him be foolish with Usopp. Even watch him sleep. It seems a long time since she's been able to spy on the men's cabin.

She's still not sure how to answer him. But maybe that's alright. The truth will suffice]

I'm sorry. I know you don't like to hear these things but...

[she hugs her knees to her chest and rests her cheek on them, smiling faintly at him and just looking at him, drinking in a face and form she hasn't seen in a long time.]

In the future, you saved me when I didn't want it, and I made you take responsibility for it.

[she breathes a laugh, her smile brightening a little]

So you could say I recruited myself.

[WOW ROBIN, SPOILER ALERT GEEZ.

But no, it's fine. He listens to what she has to say, but still. This is all a tooon to take in in one night. And his brain is really struggling to process it all. How did he go from being on a ship one minute to being in this place the next. He was going to destroy his brain thinking about all of this!]

I can't say I really get it, but I believe you. The problem is that I still don't remember who you are. I don't know what kind of crewmates I have in the future, but right now I don't have a future-goer guy. [Nor does he really want one but.] I can't go see what's going to happen so I can remember again...

So I guess that's just how it is...

[And then there is a small pause of silence.

...

Before he makes a fist and clonks himself lightly on the head.]

[His serious tone starts to ease and he gives her a wide grin through the journal.]

In the future... if I hit my head really hard and forgot everything-- we're still nakama right? I just can't remember for a while...

Well, that's what just happened then! I hit my head, so we have to start over. But only until I remember again. It's not forever.

[Stop it. She can't with you. The serious tone and then...everything changing again like the sun coming out and it--all being okay somehow. Not the same but same doesn't matter. If she's crying again it's only happy tears but they're quickly wiped away and she smiles at him. It's only by sheer restraint that she keeps herself from blossoming a hand to tug one of Luffy's ridiculous stretchy cheeks]

Nico Robin, archaeologist, Strawhat Pirate and, in Luceti at least, most feared rival of the Usopp Pirates. Would you care to join my team, Captain-chan?

[she'll call him Luffy again one day, when things have settled, and are normal, and she's less a whirlwind of everything. But for now the least she can do is attempt to trump Usopp's pawns with a king.]

[He actually has to wonder if Zoro or Sanji, or any of the others made it to this place as well. But ahh, he'll find out latrer. For now he just gives a chuckle at the thought of Usopp's Pirates having rivals.]

She enjoys Marco here, of course, but to have her nakama with her again-- To have Luffy with her again...even if nothing else... But she won't push. She won't even kidnap. Perhaps she'll entice if it comes to it but, for right now she will just extend the invitation and hope.]

Oh yeah, I think I spoke to her for a second! It's a good thing she's here too. We've been looking for her.

[He has to pause a second as he considers the offer.[

Hnnn. I don't know. I don't have any money, so I can't really afford to help with the rent. [Because that's a thing in some places.] Maybe I'll just build a tree house!

Money doesn't exist here so there is no rent. [a fact which Nami-chan is probably somewhat upset over.]

[since she'll need to stock the fridge anyway. Perhaps dig out Sanji's recipe book. She's not sure if her food will even be on par with what he can get into the village-- nor can she supply as much meat as he can get there simply by asking for it, but she can do her best and perhaps that will be enough.]

She sets the journal aside and then gently scoots the phoenix off her lap, though not before planting a quick soft kiss on his head. Then she pulls on a bathrobe and fairly floats downstairs her feet are so light.

There isn't much in the fridge. Or at least not much that would sate Luffy's appetite. But there is a new package of bacon she'd brought when she was attempting to lure Usopp in and maybe if she cooks all of it it will do for a snack? Perhaps some eggs, too. With a light laugh, Robin braids her hair back and gets started and soon the smell of frying bacon is filling the big lonely house.]

On the hands?

[And that's when he's going to notice all the hands sprouting over the ground. Wooow that was so freaky, but it was pretty cool that she could do that allll the way from where he was. He actually wondered if there ws going to be other people on his crew that could do crazy things like this, but he wouldn't ask about it. He had already spoiled himself enough after all.]

His sense of direction was a little better than Zoro's, so he wouldn't get lost this way! Eventually she's going to get a knock on her door, and a familiar voice from the other side.]
